Sleep has become a struggle. It doesn’t have to stay that way.
Hypnotherapy for 3am waking, night-time overthinking and a nervous system that won’t switch off. Online across the UK.
If you fall asleep exhausted but wake wired…
If your mind replays conversations at 3am…
If you’re tired of dreading the night…
Your nervous system may be stuck in alert mode.
I help it stand down so you can finally rest
Is This You?
- You wake between 2–4am and can’t get back to sleep.
- You feel alert rather than sleepy at night.
- You dread bedtime because you “know” it won’t work.
- You’ve tried apps, supplements, podcasts, magnesium.
- You function during the day but feel wired and exhausted.
Why You’re Exhausted… But Your Mind Won’t Switch Off?
Why Sleep Has Become So Difficult
Sleep only happens when the body feels safe enough to switch off.
But when life has been stressful, uncertain, or emotionally heavy for a while, the nervous system can get stuck in watch mode.
So even when you’re exhausted, part of your mind is still on duty.
Your Mind Is Still Working
Instead of settling into rest, the brain keeps scanning.
Replaying conversations.
Running through tomorrow’s to-do list.
Checking for problems that might need solving.
Your body is tired… but your system hasn’t stood down.
Why You Wake at 2–4am
During the night your brain moves through different sleep cycles.
If your system is still alert, this is often the moment the mind switches straight back into thinking mode.
That’s why so many people wake between 2 and 4am and find themselves wide awake again.
The Pattern Can Be Reset
Nothing has “gone wrong”.
Your nervous system simply learned to stay switched on.
Hypnotherapy works with the automatic part of the mind that runs this pattern, helping your system recognise that night-time is safe again. When that happens, the mind stops working overtime… and sleep begins to return naturally.
How I Work
2 Session Sleep Reset
For pure sleep issues
This is for people who simply can’t switch off.
Racing mind. Light sleep. Waking at 3am. Dread at bedtime.
We focus directly on helping your system feel safe enough to sleep again.
Session 1
We calm the alertness.
You experience guided trance work that helps your body shift out of “on” mode and into deeper rest.
You leave with practical tools to use that same night.
Session 2
We reinforce the reset.
We strengthen your ability to settle quickly and reduce night-time overthinking.
We lock in the feeling of safety around sleep.
3 Session Deep Reset
When stress, confidence, or emotional load is also involved
Sometimes sleep is the symptom, not the whole story.
Ongoing stress.
Carrying too much responsibility.
Feeling wired but exhausted.
Confidence knocked.
Emotional weight that hasn’t had space to settle.
This approach works a little deeper — but still gently.
Session 1
We regulate the nervous system and reduce hyper-alertness.
You begin sleeping more steadily.
Session 2
We address the internal pressure — the mental load, the “I must cope” energy, the background tension.
Session 3
We stabilise confidence and reinforce calm resilience so sleep stays steady long term.
It’s not about reliving the past. It’s about helping your system feel safe in the present.
What Happens in Sessions
Gentle trance work
You remain aware and in control.
It feels like guided deep focus — similar to that calm state just before sleep.
This is where your body learns it can stand down.
Nervous system regulation
We shift you from alert mode into safety mode.
Breathing slows. Muscles soften. Thoughts lose urgency.
No digging into the past unless necessary
We don’t analyse your childhood.
We work with what your system is doing now.
Only if something clearly needs resolving do we approach it — carefully and calmly.
Practical tools between sessions
Simple techniques you can use at bedtime or during the day.
Nothing complicated.
Just steady ways to signal safety to your body.
What Happens After
Waking feeling clearer
Not wired.
Not foggy and braced for the day.
There’s a sense of having actually rested.
Your thoughts feel more organised.
You don’t feel behind before you’ve even started.
No longer dreading bedtime
Bedtime stops feeling like a test you might fail.
You’re not calculating how many hours you’ll get.
You’re not tense before your head hits the pillow.
It becomes neutral again.
Just the end of the day.
Calmer mornings
You’re not launching straight into problem-solving.
Your body isn’t already on alert.
There’s space.
A steadier baseline.
The day begins from neutral, not survival mode.
Less overthinking when you wake in the night
Thoughts may still come — that’s what minds do.
But they don’t hook you.
They don’t spiral.
They don’t feel urgent or threatening.
You notice them… and they pass.
Falling back asleep naturally
You might still wake occasionally. That’s normal.
But instead of lying there for hours, your body settles again.
The urgency is gone.
You turn over, breathe, and drift.
Support Beyond Sleep
Although many people come to me for help with sleep and nervous system reset, the same approach can also help with other issues where the mind and body have become stuck in a stress pattern. This can include things such as:
- chronic pain patterns
- tinnitus distress
- ongoing anxiety or stress
- persistent overthinking
If you’re unsure whether hypnotherapy could help your situation, you’re welcome to get in touch and we can talk it through.
These are the kinds of changes people often notice.
Sometimes subtle.
Sometimes surprisingly powerful.
Either way, when sleep steadies, everything else tends to soften with it.
Testimonials
I can’t recommend Shirley highly enough. I saw her for acute insomnia. From the initial online discussion, Shirley really took time to understand what I was experiencing & clearly explained the hypnotherapy process & what to expect. I immediately felt at ease. Shirley creates a warm, supportive environment built on trust & genuine care. She also provided helpful support & encouragement between sessions. The results have exceeded my expectations. Sleep has improved dramatically: falling asleep much more easily & overall quality & length of sleep is vastly better. An unexpected benefit has been greater self-compassion which has reduced tension in both mind & body, and I find I am enjoying life more. I’ve also experienced a significant reduction in pain from a recent injury which I strongly believe is connected to the hypnotherapy. Shirley is incredibly skilled, thoughtful & supportive. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Shirley to anyone experiencing difficulty with sleep! And the hypnotherapy may also help in additional, unexpected ways!
I am currently editing a book on hypnotherapy as a lay person. I was intrigued to know how it works in practice. Shirley helped me with walking in the night. Rather than struggling to get back to sleep I now tend to sleep through, or, if I do wake up, am able to quickly dive back into restful sleep. I wake up refreshed and ready for the day. I highly recommend her!
Your Questions Answered: FAQs
Will I lose control?
No. You are aware the entire time. Hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state — similar to being absorbed in a book or just before drifting off to sleep. You cannot be made to say or do anything you don’t want to. You are always in control.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
Most people can enter a light trance state easily. It isn’t about “going under.” It’s about guided focus and relaxation. If you can daydream, get lost in thought, or feel absorbed in music, you can experience this process.
How many sessions will I need?
For straightforward sleep issues, most people choose the 2-Session Sleep Reset. If stress, confidence or emotional load is also involved, the 3-Session Deep Reset is recommended. The goal is steady change — not an open-ended process.
Is this therapy?
This is focused nervous system work, not traditional talk therapy. We don’t analyse your past or revisit old memories unless it is genuinely necessary. The focus is on helping your system feel safe now so sleep can stabilise.
Is this safe alongside medication?
Yes. Hypnosis and nervous system regulation are safe to use alongside most medications. This work does not replace medical advice, but it can complement it. If you have specific concerns, we can discuss them before starting.
What does trance actually feel like?
It feels calm. Slower. Your body softens, your thoughts become less urgent. Some people feel heavy and relaxed, others feel light and clear. There is no “right” way for it to feel.
Will we have to dig into my past?
No. We focus on what your nervous system is doing now. Only if something clearly needs resolving would we gently approach it — and only at your pace.
What if I wake up in the night during the programme?
That can still happen. The difference is how quickly you settle again. The aim is not perfect sleep — it’s reducing alertness so your body can return to rest more easily.
How quickly will I notice a difference?
Many people notice subtle shifts after the first session — feeling calmer at bedtime or falling back asleep more easily. The changes build steadily across sessions.
What happens between sessions?
You’ll receive simple, practical tools to use at home. Nothing complicated. Just steady ways to signal safety to your system so the work continues gently between sessions.
